Your type is drawn in ink, then Spread lets it soak outwards so neighbouring letters run together. Ink sets how much of that soak dries solid: push it up and counters fill in, pull it down and letters thin out.
Softness keeps a blurred, out-of-focus edge. Roughness chews the outline like a worn stamp, and Grain adds speckle to the ink and the paper. Hit Reseed for a new pattern.
